Houston Chronicle: Harris County inmates pen emotional letter from jail on coronavirus: ‘Nobody wants to die’

A group of 15 inmates at the Harris County jail say in a handwritten letter dated Thursday that they’re panicking and afraid of dying at the jail if officials don’t intervene to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The letter was written three days before the first person tested positive at the third largest jail in the country, and postmarked from the facility where 7,896 people are housed as of Tuesday. The author — who is among a group of dorm mates in the “honors dorm” for people with access to special programming — stated he was “searching for a voice where there is not one.” view original press
